Police Band, above, will be a popular attraction at the Top Ryde Centre on Friday between 11am and 1pm. Safety
tips for young and old Safer Communities,
with special emphasis on the young and the elderly, is the theme of a
three-day event at Top Ryde Shopping Centre to be staged by Gladesville
Police. Police officers
will be on hand to explain personal safety issues and home security to
seniors, said Gladesville Police Local Area Commander Superintendent
Paul Nolan However, the event is for everyone. Police will be on
hand with advice and information on matters such as drink spiking, safe
driving, under-age drinking, party gate crashes, street smart issues,
and more. The public can report
crime, traffic or any matter they like at the spectacular and police will
be on hand to deal with anything, Superintendent Nolan said. On display
during the Spectacular between 10am and 4pm there will be: a highway patrol
vehicle; a police motor cycle (kids can sit on the bike or in the car
and have their photo taken); a weapons trainer display each day; displays
and videos with the water police. Mounted police
will be at the centre on the Thursday and Friday afternoons; police dogs
will attend on Thursday. Police band
will perform on Friday between 11am and 1pm. Present during
the Spec-tacular will be: Domestic Violence Officer; Youth Liaison Officer;
Traffic Officer; Crime Prevention Officer; and Senior Police. Childrens
activities include: face painting; helium balloons; fingerprinting; Police
cardboard cut out money boxes; and posters. Guessing
competition - how many little pink pigs are in the jar? The prize is a
14-day holiday. Colouring
competition winner will be announced on Friday at a special morning tea. Seniors Safety
Award winner also announced on Friday morning in presence of Ryde MP and
Minister for Police John Watkins, Gladesville Police Local Area Commander
Superintendent Paul Nolan, and Ryde Mayor Clr Edna Wilde OAM. All monies raised
is going to the Ryde Hunters Hill Life Education Centre. The fire brigade
will also attend over the three days to give advice on fire alarms and
smoke detectors. The sponsors of the event are TWT, Top Ryde Shopping Centre, BOC gases, Retra-vision, Stamford Hotel North Ryde, Mega Games Trader and Ryde City Council. |
