Woolworths supermarket robbed by shotgun duo TWO MEN armed with a shotgun have robbed the Woolworths supermarket on the corner of Epping and Balaclava roads Marsfield. At about 11:30pm on Monday July 18, one of the men jumped the cigarette counter, filled two bags with cigarettes and demanded money from the cashier. The men then escaped in a car that had been reported stolen from West Ryde the previous Thursday. The car was later recovered by police. Any person with information about this incident can call Eastwood Police on 9858 5944 or crime stoppers on 1800 333 000. * * * AN EMERTON man, 67, is in a critical condition after a 12ft open aluminium runabout he was in overturned on the Parramatta River near Putney at 3pm on Wednesday. The man and his two friends were on board returning to the Kissing Point boat ramp after fishing. When the vessel was about 50 metres from the boat ramp it was passed by another boat. The runabout took in water, apparently from the wake of the other boat, and overturned. The Emerton man was found unconscious in the water and was given CPR. Ambulance attended and took him to Concord Hospital. * * * POLICE WERE patrolling Victoria Road, Gladesville at 11.50am on Friday when they conducted a vehicle registration check on a gold Ford sedan which alerted them of a discrepancy with the registration and vehicle description. The vehicle took several turns down back streets prior to police stopping the vehicle. The 49-year-old driver from Moorebank was then questioned by police in relation to possession of the vehicle and his cancelled drivers licence. He was arrested and taken to Ryde Police Station where he was charged with having goods in custody, stealing a motor vehicle, driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle and driving without a licence. * * * ON FRIDAY afternoon police conducted a vehicle stop while patrolling the Carling-ford area. They spoke to a driver and a search of his vehicle was conducted. Police found a bag containing green vegetable matter in the glove box of the vehicle and a plastic implement under the drivers seat. The 19-year-old male driver from Carlingford was questioned in relation to the items found and was subsequently charged to appear at Hornsby Local Court. * * * AN OFF-DUTY police officer was assaulted by a female on a train between Sydney Terminal and Epping Railway Station at about 6am on Sunday. The female was arrested by the officer and another off-duty police officer on the train. Eastwood police met the officers at Epping Railway Station where the train was being held by City Rail staff. A male colleague of the female started abusing police and attempted to assault a police officer. Police took him from the carriage and both offenders were taken to Ryde Police Station. The 19-year-old Woy Woy man was charged to appear at Ryde Local Court on August 17 and the 16-year-old female, also from Woy Woy, was charged to appear at Hornsby Childrens Court on August 4. * * * A GREEN Valley man, 20, has been arrested after using a fraudulent NSW Drivers Licence, Medicare card and Bankcard while trying to buy mobile phones from stores at Macquarie Shopping Centre, Macquarie Park at about 11am on Wednesday. He first went to an Optus store and shortly after went to the Telstra store. Staff became suspicious and contacted police. Police arrived and confirmed that the identification used by the man was false. He was arrested and taken to Ryde Police Station where he was charged to appear in Ryde Local Court on August 10. * * * POLICE WERE patrolling the Epping CBD at 3am on Thursday when they saw a green Mazda drive north in Rawson Street Epping and continue left into Carlingford Road where the vehicle was travelling well in excess of the 60km/h limit. Police stopped the vehicle and after talking to the driver smelt a strong odour of intoxicating liquor. He was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a positive reading. The 27-year-old Carlingford man was arrested and taken to Eastwood Police Station and underwent a Breath Analysis which returned a high range reading (0.215 grams). He was suspended from driving in NSW and was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice to appear at Ryde Local Court on August 10. |
