HUNTERS
HILL HAPPENINGS
A busy year for planning CHRISTMAS IS a time when we pray for harmony and peace throughout the world. How sad it is that calm cannot reign everywhere at this time. 2005 has been a frantically busy year with a record number of development applications being processed. Plans of management have been completed for Clarkes Point and Gladesville reserves, including Betts Park, with more work on the Gladesville Master Plan being carried out. A highlight has been the background planning for the presentation of design awards for excellence to be announced in Heritage Week 2006. Both residential and commercial designs of built form and heritage will be included and we are hoping for many entries to make the judging difficult for our esteemed panel. We are also hoping that this practice will bring forth inspirational design in the future, as the plan is to hold design competitions every two years. * * * HUNTERS HILL RSL awarded life membership to three members recently. Ray Crane, Don Dunn and Gordon Glencross were invested at the RSL Christmas lunch. Congratulations to all, it is well deserved. * * * AN OFFICIAL launch of the Harbour to the Great North Walk was held recently in Lane Cove. A new brochure has been produced and is available from Hunters Hill, Lane Cove, Willoughby and North Sydney councils as well as government tourist offices. The three maps are also available on the Department of Planning website. With holidays approaching, take your water, sunscreen and sun hat and explore the walks at your leisure. * * * NEW YEARs Eve passes are still available at Council. Traffic on to the peninsula will be stopped at 5pm on New Years Eve. The Sunday bus service at Valentia Street wharf will be operating over the holiday period except for public holiday Sundays. Please patronise the service. * * * WISHING EVERYONE a safe, peaceful and happy Christmas and a healthy and successful 2006 beginning with a celebration on Australia Day at Clarkes Point. Come and join in the excitement of kite flying, citizenship ceremony, and scout and SES demonstrations. Bring your homemade lamingtons or damper to enter the Bake Off competition. Our ambassador in 2006 will be the famous world-renowned Lorrae Desmond. It will be a fun day so see you there. * * * MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Happy New Year. |
