Speaking of contests, Alice takes top spot After replacing another student at the last minute, Ryde Secondary Colleges Alice Chu won the Rotary National Public Speaking competition held in Penrith last month. I was so shocked because my biggest weakness is usually my material, but the judges liked my presentation and delivery, Alice said. Sponsored by Hunters Hill Rotary Club, Alice had six minutes to speak about the 4-Way Test, the tenets of Rotary International. She spoke about everyday life and related the tenets to her time as a school student. She was more than capable to take the place in the competition. She was absolutely outstanding against stiff competition, Hunters Hill Rotary debating co-ordinator Ellis Hopper said. A keen speaker, Alice and her school debating team won the intra-college debating competition and went on to represent Ryde Secondary College in the regional round of the Plain English Speaking Competition. Alice has also been an enthusiastic member of the successful Year 11 debating team that competed in the Premiers Debating and the Macquarie University senior debating tournament earlier this year Alice, who has her sights set on becoming a famous musician, already learns the violin and plays bass guitar. Alice received a shield, presented by Rotarys District Governors, who acknowledged her achievement .
