Cultural exchange Aussie style

Two cultures came together recently when Marsden High School’s Chinese sister school dropped by for a visit.

Fifteen students and 11 teachers from Yinchuan No. 1 High School in China’s Ningxia Province made up the touring party that enjoyed games of chess, badminton and table tennis. While the famous Aussie sunshine was hidden beneath clouds, the visitors still got to enjoy a local treat in the form of damper.

The sister school was also pleased to hear that Marsden High’s Chinese Australian students had taken it upon themselves to raise $1000 to aid those affected by the recent earthquakes.

Students held a bake sale, selling pancakes, cakes, and other tasty treats for the cause.

Yinchuan No 1 High School is one of China’s top schools, accommodating more than 3,000 students.

The sister-school arrangement allows students from both schools to engage in cultural exchanges and ongoing dialogue through information technology.

Marsden High School hopes to send a group to visit the Chinese school. This is the second delegation of visitors to Australia by Yinchuan.
