Student scores titanic win

Marist College Eastwood schoolboy Scott Sydney is making big waves in the sport of sailing.

The Year 12 student recently won a silver medal in the Laser 4.7 class at the World Youth Sailing Championships in Croatia.
Competing against 1280 competitors from 42 countries, Scott took the medal after 12 gruelling races.

Scott said: “Sailing in Croatia was a picture perfect experience, and furthermore, the experience I gained from the event will play a significant role in my development in the lead up to the London Olympics in 2012.”

Continuing its winning ways in the sporting arena, Marist College Eastwood enjoyed great success at the recent Metropolitan Catholic Schools Athletic Carnival.

Teacher Steve Mitchell said the school finished second in both the junior and senior shields, losing out to only St Greg’s Campbelltown in the overall standings.
