Big Week of Festivities

Lion dances, noisy fire crackers, martial arts demonstrations as well as a giant cooking competition will be part of the Lunar Celebrations in Eastwood next week in the lead up to the main celebrations on Saturday February 20.

Having kicked off on Sunday with lion dances at the Eastwood Shopping Centre and a display of lions pole dancing the community is invited to celebrate the Year of The Tiger at a range of events this coming week.

On Sunday 60 competitors will go head-to-head at the Ryde Cooking
Competition in Eastwood Plaza from 11am until 5pm.

The Meadowbank Chinese Neighbourhood Centre will hold their spring festival party on Monday February 15 from 9.30am until 11.30am at Memorial Park. Residents are invited to enjoy the entertainment on show.

An Asian cooking demonstration, held by the Marsfield Italian Women at Eastwood Plaza the following day from 10am until 1pm.

The Eastwood Chinese Seniors having their own Lunar celebration on Wednesday February 17.

This event will consist of a Chinese luncheon and cultural performances at St Phillip’s Anglican Church Hall from 10am until 2pm.

On Thursday the Korean Women Celebration will be held at the West Ryde Station Street Hall from 11am until 11pm on Thursday. This event will consist of a luncheon and cultural dances, hosted by the Christian Community Aid’s Korean Women’s Group.

On Friday February 19, the Lunar New Year Combined Lunch Buffet will be on at Hawks in Eastwood. There are only 150 tickets available for this event hosted by the Lunar New Year Subcommittee.

Prices start at $12.00 per head (for seniors) for buffet lunch.

The main celebrations will kick off on Saturday February 20 from 11am until 6pm in Eastwood.
The family friendly event is set to include a Korean Drum street parade as well as a Taekwondo performance and a grand finale of firecrackers and dragon dance.
