Cornupia cafe to get fresh start

Carers involved in the Cornucopia Café program last week said they had had a successful meeting with Minister Assisting on Health (Mental Health) Barbara Perry.

Carer Bernadette Beinke said the tender for management of the cafe is no longer occurring and a consultation process will take place to find a new solution.

“The tender has been scrapped in its entirety,” Ms Beinke said. “It was a very successful meeting. We’re thrilled.”

Ms Perry said she “valued” the opportunity to hear the carers’ perspective and to talk them through the next steps in the review process.

“I reassured the carers that they will be involved in every step ... “ she said.

“I also expressed my disappointment with the significant amount of misinformation that has emerged on this issue, reassuring the carers that neither the program nor the property was ever for sale and that all of the jobs are safe.

“The review is now underway and we are going to take the time to get this tender right.”
