Doing their bit for a cleaner Oz

Ryde City Councillor Vic Tagg (left) joined local volunteers picking up rubbish at Meadowbank Park on Sunday as part of Clean Up Australia Day.

In his fifth year as a volunteer Mr Tagg found that this time many more people attended “and wanted to just help”.

He said many nearby residents came to help, which was “excellent” to see.

As well as cleaning the park, the group got their hands dirty cleaning stormwater drains where they filled seven bags with rubbish.

Meanwhile, Tarban Creek (below left) is looking a lot cleaner after seven volunteers spent their Sunday working in the area.

Known as the Tarban Creek Cleaner-Uppers, the group removed 17 bags of rubbish and five bags of recyclables from the area.

The rubbish included supermarket bags, bait bags, energy drink and water bottles.
