High performers recognised
St Pius X College’s high performing students in the 2009 HSC were recognised at a special assembly last month. Among them were Dux for 2009 Justin Donnelly (above) who received the highest Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranking (ATAR) for the college, 99.3. According to the school, Justin excelled particularly in Maths and Science and is enrolled to study advanced science at Sydney University. Justin represented the college in long distance running and in his address to the assembly he urged students to maintain a balance and not to neglect their participation in sport. Ten per cent of college’s student body achieved rankings of above 95 and 20 per cent over 90. Of the graduating class, 35 per cent received rankings over 80 and the college had 82 mentions in the honours lists. Other high performers were Darcy Plowman, on the state All Rounders list, and Alex Madry, eighth in the state for Studies of Religion. College principal Brother Michael Hoffman said: “They approached their studies very professionally and gained excellent results in a range of subjects, covering the humanities and the sciences.” St Pius X College is at 35 Anderson Street Chatswood, phone 9411 4733. |
