THIS WEEK as we celebrate Australia Day and the launch of Lunar New Year 2012 we can also celebrate what is good in our society.

Our Good News story on Page 1 is a good example of what makes our local community such a great place to live in and of which to be so proud.

Dr Jill Wheeler and her Good Samaritan compatriots exemplify all that is good in humanity and we salute them.

Phyl Russell OAM better half of Rusty Russell OAM and a former Ryde Citizen of the Year will attempt to blow out 90 candles on her cake assisted by son and heir Kim and Carolyn Russell while also celebrating on December 31 are Norma Notley of East Ryde and Doris Carrall of Gladesville.

EVA REYNOLDS elder daughter of JB Goddaughter and JB twin brother’s eldest daughter Debbie Booth Reynolds now resident in Canberra heads this week’s Birthday Honours List turning 26 today celebrating with father Graham and young sister Zoe. In actual fact she was born on January 25 in Pommieland when it was already Anzac Day January 26 in Oz. But I guess we have to abide by birth certificates, don’t we?

Also celebrating today is David Rafferty of Achieve Foundation and former Rotary exchange student Mateus Batista Silva from Brazil turning eighteen.

Tomorrow we don’t have any birthdays recorded but we do have Rob and Judy Mitchell celebrating 42 years wedded bliss while Greg and Marguerite Doohan Vaughan celebrate 61 years.

Audrey Knight better half of Lynden Knight and sister-in-law of Dr John F Knight AM of Medi Aid Foundation and Vimiera Village fame blows out 89 candles on her birthday cake Saturday while love birds Faye and Noel Dunn celebrate 56 years wedded bliss and Carolyn and Graham Metcalf 45 years.

Former Ryde Citizen of the Year and local songbird Roseanna Gallo will be blowing out candles Sunday with hubby Len and family while Sally James of West Ryde will be celebrating with David and Nick Tedesco of tailoring fame will be celebrating and serenading his beloved Mary.

Monday January 30 will be a very special day for the Russell family of North Ryde when Phyl Russell OAM better half of Rusty Russell OAM attempts to blow out 90 candles on her birthday cake and Rusty calls in the Bushfire Brigade. Phyl was Cub Leader “Rikki” for JB and a host of other local grubs in days of yore at 1st Ryde Wolf Cub Pack. Dyb Dyb Rikki from all of us.

Norma Notley of East Ryde and another veteran Cub Scout Leader at North Ryde and a Burwood school friend of Phyl Russell celebrates Tuesday same day as another former Cub Leader and fellow member of Sydney St George’s Guild of former scouts and Guides Doris Rose Carrall of Gladesville.

Also celebrating Tuesday is Margaret Lee better half of Mark Lee and these days charming electorate assistant of Ryde MP Victor Dominello at his Ryde office and Siddharth Maheshwari celebrating 31 years at Ryde Rotary’s weekly meeting at Next Generation Ryde.

Finally happy birthday and mabuhay to Rye Rye Pedrosa a JB Godson who turns 35 on Wednesday in the Philppines. Happy daze all.

Judy's Last Hurrah!

2011 Ryde Citizen of the Year Judy Harris has one day to reign until a new 2012 Ryde Citizen of the Year is proclaimed on Australia Day tomorrow. Judy as a past president of Ryde Lions Club was at the Club’s annual Robbie Burns Dinner at Ryde X Club last Thursday. She is pictured with three other previous Ryde Citizens of the Year also present l to r Ernie Kidd OAM, Neita Matthews OAM and John F Booth AM.
