Young rookie gardener growing in confidence A decision to give a young, inexperienced person a go has paid dividends for Macquarie Community College in Carlingford. Late last year the college decided to employ a groundsman/gardener and took a punt on inexperienced Mario Anthony, who recently graduated from TAFE. Mario had been “highly recommended” by the job placement service Achieve Australia and has performed “above and beyond” the community college’s expectations, says Chief Executive Officer Dr June Heinrich. “Mario is committed, hard working and faces every challenge with enthusiasm,” Dr “He has done a particularly good job cleaning up (overgrown) areas and looks after all our gardens and our grounds. We are very pleased to have him.” Mario is a former Marist College, Eastwood student and he told TWT he enjoyed working outdoors and meeting students at the community college. “I’m definitely learning new things all the time,” he said. Achieve Australia is known as a disability service provider but has achieved considerable recent success as a job placement service.“We look at what business needs, not just find jobs,” Achieve Australia Business Development Officer Alex Escobar said.
