2018 promises to be an eventful season for the Saints who are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the club’s foundation at Eastwood Oval, where they still play today.
Club President Michael Masulans is rightfully proud of the club’s history.
“I’ve been involved with this club for 20 years now, and one of the best things about it is that some of the founding members from 60 years ago are also still involved,” he said.
“It shows how important the club is to the local community, which is why our motto is ‘building community through sport’.
“We now offer both mens and womens football (soccer), as well as netball. The club has come a long way in 60 years and I, along with the rest of our committee
and members, are looking forward to celebrating this milestone.”
The season will end with a huge presentation Day/evening at T.G Millner Field with plans for a fireworks display to finish the year with a bang.
Prior to that the annual Back To Eastwood Day will be held on Saturday June 16 which is the same day as the Socceroos’ opening FIFA World Cup fixture against France.
Ryde City Council recently announced they would be investigating the creation of ‘Live Sites’ for the public to gather and watch games during the month-long festival of World Cup finals football and Eastwood St Andrews are in discussions with council to hopefully have one of these sites at Eastwood Oval to coincide with their 60th anniversary Back To Eastwood Day celebrations.
Last season the club boasted over 550 soccer registrations which included four girls/womens teams as well as over 200 netball players.
The Saints are hoping to increase these numbers this year with a $100 discount available to players under 18 years of age and attending school via the State Government’s Active Kids Program. This offer is only available from February 1 which is when junior registrations will open online.
Senior (18 years plus) registrations are already open online via the link in the registration section of www.eastwoodstandrews.org and there’ll be a Registration Day at Eastwood Oval this Saturday February 3 from 11am to 4pm.
There’ll also be a FREE soccer clinic from 10am to 11am on the same day for any junior players wanting to try soccer before signing up for the season.
