BRAZILIAN striker Bobo scored twice in Sydney FC’s 3-1 Australia Day demolition of Melbourne Victory, setting a club goal-scoring record along the way.
The Sky Blues improved their season tally to 42 goals in 18 games with a come-from-behind 3-1 win away to Melbourne Victory in last Friday night’s ‘Big Blue’.
Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold regards his star-studded attack as the most lethal combination the Hyundai A-League has ever seen.
“The front four I believe is probably the greatest front line in A-League history,” Arnold said at his post-match press conference.
“We know we can score goals and damage teams with our quality.
“When we play to structure and focus more on the football rather than battle and the fight, and we get some fluency, we are such a special team.”
Bobo’s brace took his tally to 18 for the season to surpass ex-Sky Blues hitman Marc Janko’s previous record of 16 goals in a single campaign.
The 33-year-old former Besiktas and Gremio striker has thrived playing for the side proving to be one of the most dominant in Hyundai A-League history and appears a certainty to finish with this season’s golden boot.
He is on top of the goalscoring charts by four goals, ahead of Melbourne City’s Ross McCormack, who is now back in the UK with his Hyundai A-League future uncertain.
Bobo’s is 10 goals clear of the rest of the chasing pack (Berisha, Mierzejewski, Nabbout, Kaludjerovic – all on eight goals).
The big question now is whether he can beat the Hyundai A-League record of goals in a regular season, which is 25 by City’s Uruguayan star Bruno Fornaroli.
Bobo needs eight goals from the remaining nine A-League games to claim the record.
He gets another chance to add to his tally on Friday night when Sydney FC host lowly Wellington Phoenix, a team he scored a hat-trick against when they met earlier
