Cathie’s Column: Australia Day Concert at North Ryde Common

ALL roads lead to North Ryde Common this Friday January 26 for City of Ryde's Australia Day Concert celebrations from 5pm to 9pm. This is a good opportunity to bring your own picnic rug or deck chair, wave the flag and enjoy the concert with family and friends. Show your support for the Battle of the Bands that include finalists The Vinyl Press, A Big Mistake and Supahoney - come and watch them perform and vote for your favourite band for the People's Choice Award. Concert will feature Spencer Jones from The Voice and Jay Parrino and The Rockers of Oz alongside this year's Battle Of The Bands guest judge Isabella Manfredi. There'll also be rides, sports, food trucks and a great line up of entertainment, ending with a spectacular firework display. Activities for children include amusement rides, mini tennis, volleyball, soccer, cricket, scoop ball, frisbee throwing, and face painting. Kim's 20 years sterling service at Ryan Wilks CONGRATULATIONS to Kim Sparkes on her 20 years of service at Ryan Wilks Pty Ltd at Silverwater. She is pictured with Managing Director and General Manager Ron Ryan of Tennyson Point. Kim started with us on January 5, 1998 as a young mum getting back into the work force and working three short days a week,Ó said Ron. She now heads up the administration and procedural side of our business and that's just to name a few of the many tasks she carries out in our organisation. It's been a pleasure for all of us here at Ryan Wilks to work alongside such an accomplished member of our team, he added. 

Computer Pals at West Ryde Computer Pals for Seniors West Ryde still have a few places in the iPad beginners Class, Internet plus a three-week Computer Security course available. Term 1 starts on Monday February 5. Classes held Monday to Friday during nine week school term, in an air conditioned room at St Columb's Church, corner Dickson & Bellevue avenues, West Ryde. Dru Yoga at Nirvana School of Yoga The Nirvana school of Yoga prides itself on teaching various types of safe yoga styles for men and women. Classes resume Monday January 29. The Seniors class which started last term is growing all the time and is priced low to accommodate pensioners and is held on Thursday mornings at 11am. Dru yoga is essentially a yoga of the Heart as it combines postures and sequences which activate the heart centre and is enormously popular with dedicated yogis and beginners alike. An open, healthy heart is imperative for a happy and fulfilled life. This class will be conducted by a professional certificated Dru Yoga teacher on Thursday nights at 6.45pm starting Thursday February 1. Epping Probus Seeks members Epping & District Probus Club is a social club for retired or semi-retired men and are seeking persons interested in membership. The Club meets on the second Monday each month in Epping Presbyterian Church hall from 10am to 12 noon and runs regular social activities including speakers, musical afternoons, movie attendances, outings, walks, coffee morning teas, theatre performances and tours.
