Historical Society keen to preserve Ryde’s history

Over the past few years the Ryde district has undergone huge changes and today those changes continue.

Ryde District Historical Society is endeavouring to preserve a record of the area from its early days to the present.

Since the Society began more than 55 years ago, members have been gathering items that capture the history of our locality.

The Society’s collection contains more than 20,000 photographs but they need to expand this resource for the benefit of future generations.

Did you grow up in the district?

Did you or your parents/grandparents live or go to school in Ryde? Do you have any photographs of houses, streets, buildings, parks or events in the area? Do you have school photos? Then the Society would love to take copies of your photos!

Suburbs in the Ryde district are: Chatswood West, Denistone East, Denistone, Denistone West, East Ryde, Eastwood, Gladesville, Macquarie Park, Marsfield, Meadowbank, Melrose Park, North Ryde, Putney, Ryde, Tennyson Point and West Ryde.

On Saturday February 17 the Society is holding a Scanning Day at Willandra House, 770 Victoria Road, Ryde from 10.30am to 3pm.

Bring your photos along. Enjoy a cuppa while members scan them and have a look around the house and their collection. If you can come along, or if you have questions, contact the Society at rdhs1@bigpond.com
