Hunters Hill Happenings with Mayor Mark Bennett

Hoping 2018 is a year of good health and success. WELCOME to 2018!

A happy New Year to everyone. Let us hope that this is a year of good health and success for all. Having successfully welcomed the New Year in with a spectacular fireworks display and no problems with behaviour and traffic at Woolwich, we await Australia Day celebrations to officially launch the year.

Australia Day in Hunters Hill

THIS year the Australia Day celebration will be held on Friday January 26 in the Hunters Hill Town Hall commencing at 9am.

Our 2018 Ambassador is Ms Catherine Saxelby, an accredited nutritionist, best-selling author and speaker whose career
has spanned 25 years in clinical dietetics, the food industry, in teaching and writing.

This exciting ceremony begins with a Welcome to Country, the unfurling of the Australian flag, an Address by the Hunters
Hill Australia Day Ambassador, Conferral of Australian Citizenship and announcement of the Hunters Hill Citizens’ Awards.

I invite everyone to join me on Australia Day to welcome our new citizens and to acknowledge the 2018 Hunters Hill Citizen, Young Citizen, Sportsperson and Events of the Year Awardees, and applaud their contribution to the municipality.

Local libraries tour

I RECENTLY enjoyed a tour of the Top Ryde and West Ryde libraries with City of Ryde Librarian Jill Webb. Hunters Hill Council has a joint library agreement with City of Ryde which provides the library service for the residents of Hunters Hill.

I was very impressed with the service offered with both libraries full with people reading books, or using computers and wifi.

Spaces for meetings, studying and enjoying children’s activities are totally utilised and although libraries are changing as books are available online, they are our community lounge rooms of the future, a very important community facility.

Seniors Table Tennis

TABLE Tennis for Seniors had a great year in 2017 with their keen members enjoying the connections, improved fitness and fun. Seniors wanting to learn table tennis on Mondays from January 15 in the Gladesville Road Community Hall from 10am to
12 noon should contact Pat on 9879 3707.

Seniors Technology

The Moocooboola Computer Club for Seniors is holding a morning tea/open house event on Wednesday January 24 at 44 Gladesville Road Hunters Hill between 10am and 11am.

I invite persons interested in finding out about this organisation and becoming involved as members or trainers, to come along and have a chat.

They are a relaxed and friendly group that has already helped many local seniors become more connected, and wrangle their IT challenges!

Please RSVP to Peter Rich phone 9879-4588 or email to moocoo@netspace.net.au
