Bennelong MP John Alexander OAM this week became embroiled in controversy over whether he has dual citizenship and therefore not eligible to be a federal Member of Parliament.
His father was born in England and migrated to Australia with his family when aged three in 1911.
Mr Alexander said yesterday:

“My father was born in the United Kingdom in 1907, before moving to Australia as a very young child.

“He became an Australian Citizen as soon as he could. I understand he renounced his British citizenship before I was born, because he was a proud Australian.

“I was born in 1951 as an Australian citizen”.
Meanwhile Mr Alexander is currently completing his 100Km Walk for the Leukaemia Foundation and will celebrate at the finishing line in Eastwood Park this Friday at 3pm with a free BBQ to which all are invited.
