A MAN has been charged after two people were allegedly assaulted with a hammer in Sydney’s north-west.
Detectives attached to Ryde Police Area Command commenced investigations following reports of two separate alleged hammer attacks last week.
In the first incident, about 9pm last Tuesday (October 13), emergency services responded to reports of a man being assaulted with a hammer at a home on Doomben Avenue, Eastwood.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 75-year-old man at the scene before he was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
Officers were informed that the 75-year-old man was in the home at the time when he responded to a person knocking on the front door.
Upon opening the door, he was allegedly struck in the face with the hammer.
In the second incident, shortly before 7am last Wednesday (October 14), emergency services attended a park on the corner of Blaxland Road and Doomben Avenue, Eastwood, after a 71-year-old man was allegedly hit several times in the face and head with a hammer.
He was treated by paramedics and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Crime scenes were established at both locations that were examined by specialist police.
The incidents are believed to be random.
Following extensive inquiries, investigators with the assistance of North and South West Metropolitan Operations Support Group and the Dog Unit, executed a search warrant at a unit on Doomben Avenue, Eastwood.
A hammer was allegedly located and seized near the property.
A 36-year-old man was arrested inside the unit.
Police will allege, during the arrest, the man allegedly assaulted police, before a taser was successfully deployed.
The man was taken to Gladesville Police Station where he was charged with causing wounding/grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder, assaulting a police officer in the execution of duty without actual bodily harm and destroying or damaging property less than $2000.
He was refused bail and is before the courts.

Card skimming, fraud ring charges
FINANCIAL SQUAD detectives have charged two Macquarie Park men following an investigation into an alleged card skimming and fraud syndicate under Strike Force Dawport.
In April 2026, State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad established Strike Force Dawport to investigate a significant increase in card skimming and fraud offences across the Sydney metropolitan area.
As part of inquiries, detectives identified an escalation in the installation of skimming devices on ATMs, which were allegedly used to unlawfully capture debit and credit card data of customers.
Detectives will allege the stolen card data was subsequently used to manufacture counterfeit bank cards, allowing alleged offenders to access compromised accounts and make fraudulent cash withdrawals and transactions.
Following extensive inquiries, about 7am yesterday last Tuesday (October 13), strike force detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad – executed a search warrant in Macquarie Park.
During the search, police allegedly seized skimming devices, equipment to install them and more than $40,000 in cash.
Two men – aged 56 and 64 – were arrested at the scene and taken to Gladesville Police Station.
Both men were charged with four counts of possessing equipment to make ID information, committing an indictable offence and two counts of attempted unauthorised function with serious offence intention.
The older man was charged with an additional offence of knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime.
They were both refused bail and are before the courts.
Commander of Financial Crimes Squad, Detective Superintendent Gordon Arbinja, said organised fraud and card skimming offences could have devastating consequences for victims.
“We will allege the syndicate targeted unsuspecting banking customers, causing significant financial harm through the theft and misuse of personal banking information,” Det Supt Arbinja said.
“The arrests should serve as a warning that the NSW Police Force will continue to identify, investigate and disrupt those involved in financial crime and fraud.”

Illegal e-bike users warned again
FOLLOWING A spate of incidents, Ryde Police are warning that not all e-bikes sold in Australian shops or through online retailers are legal for road use.
E-bikes that operate at higher speeds, have high-powered motors (even if restricted by software) or do not require pedalling, cannot be used in public places.
Use of these non compliant e-bikes can attract significant penalties and may be seized by police and authorised officers.
Any e-bike that has a throttle cannot exceed 6kph without being pedalled and all power assistance must cut out at 25kph.
Currently, the maximum legal power output for an e-bike used in a public place in NSW is 500 watts.
However after March 1, 2029, this will be reduced to 250 watts.
Apart from ensuring that your e-bike is legal, e-bike riders must follow the same road rules that apply to regular bicycles.
This includes wearing a helmet, not carrying more passengers than the bike is designed for, and complying with footpath riding rules. If you are 16 years of age or older and are not supervising a child under 16 years of age who is riding a bicycle, you cannot ride on the footpath.
Non-compliant e-bikes present a significant safety risk, to the rider and other people present.
Remember, if you ride a non compliant e-bike in a public place, it will be seized and destroyed.
