    Ryde Mayor Jerome Laxale has been re-elected and Cr Simon Zhou has been elected Deputy Mayor. Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne has also been re-elected for a one year term "with an increased majority", while Liberal councillor Vittoria Raciti was elected Deputy Mayor also for one year.

    A massive haul of methamphetamine - or ‘ice’ - with a street value of more than $200m has this week been intercepted by Ryde Police, an achievement made all the more impressive by the minimal police resources involved. The man arrested in connection with the massive haul played a key part in his own arrest, attracting the wrong sort of attention by crashing into two police vehicles with his van, found packed with 273kg of ‘ice’ when police located him an hour later.
